Catching Fire, Breaking Silence: Addressing Sexual and Gender Violence in our Social Movements

Sweet Livity announces a new blog posted this week, written by Taij Kumarie Moteelall and Diana Marie Lee, Founder and Principal of Sweet Livity LLC.  The blog was written for Standing in Our Power, a network of women of color social justice leaders calling for greater integrity, accountability, interdependence and compassion among individuals and organizations working for transformative social change.  The blog is the first of a series of writings to share personal stories, our analysis and tools to shed light on harmful “ways of being” that create barriers to effective and sustainable social change efforts of leaders, organizations and networks.

Sweet Livity’s focus is to offer customized capacity building and wellness services that allow people and organizations who serve the community to do their jobs to the fullest. Through our strategic coaching and wellness programs, people and organizations transform spaces where they live and work into healthy, happy and productive environments. However the prevalence of sexual and gender violence in our social movement challenges all of us working for justice to address the harmful internal practices that ultimately affects the integrity and results of our community work.

We are catching fire and breaking silence. In the coming months, as we share our stories, analysis and tools, we aim to support those who are most impacted. We want to foster deep and lasting change while helping survivors, victims, targets and perpetrators of sexual and gender violence and oppression to recognize when this is happening and how to get support.

We invite you to read the entire blog post at http://spiritinaction.net/2014/08/07/catching-fire-breaking-silence-addressing-sexual-and-gender-violence-in-our-social-movements-by-taij-kumarie-moteelall-and-diana-marie-lee/.
