Sweet Livity focuses on improving the effectiveness and sustainability of leaders and organizations that serve the community, especially under-served and vulnerable populations. As part of this work, Sweet Livity supports clients to fulfill on their mission and purpose without sacrificing their well-being or happiness.
From research conducted in the US and around the world, there are key factors that influence happiness and well-being. Over the coming months, Sweet Livity will share these factors and how to address them in one’s personal and work lives.
Today, we want to talk about Gratitude, the quality of being thankful, readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. “When people in great numbers choose to practice, integrate, and embody gratitude, the cumulative force that is generated can help create the kind of world we all hope for and desire, for ourselves and for future generations.” http://gratefulness.org/resource/what-is-gratitude/
Sweet Livity works with clients whose work is to promote positive change in the world. These clients are working with the most vulnerable people in their community, often with constrained resources. Given the larger political economic and social context that obstruct how goals and plans can be effectively implemented, one can find it very difficult to generate a sense of gratitude for progress made along the way.
Sweet Livity supports clients to create regular gratitude practices, as part of promoting well-being and sustainability to work over the long haul. An example is holding workshops where people explore the concept of gratitude and practice writing down lists of what they are grateful for. Pairing people up as “gratitude partners” to regularly exchange their daily or weekly gratitude lists supports ongoing practice and accountability.
Here is one way to get started on your own or with members of your work team. Either in the morning at home/beginning of your work day OR at the end of your workday/in the evening, you write down 5 things you are grateful for. 1. I am grateful for…..whatever first comes to mind. 2. I am grateful for…..whatever comes to mind.
Keep a gratitude journal to track your experience with gratitude over time. Feel welcome to share your experiences with us here at Sweet Livity.
